Underrated: Moving Forward without “Shared Reality” 🤷

We don’t have to agree on the way things are or why they’re the way they are, to agree on how we want them to be. When we’re truly present to any given happening, we are speechless. Watching an infant encounter something like a plastic dish, we see the infinity of everything. We see them encountering the color, shape, texture, size, distance of the object. As adults, we have all of that and so much more we encounter: The history, the context, the chemistry, the cultural significance, the awareness the object is known as. And how many ‘objects’ are in our view in a given moment? All understandings, like words, limit infinity. And so all understandings miss the mark and fall short of the glory of God. What’s a shared reality in this context, but a shared illusion?

Being with this, I’ve been contemplating how useful it is to let go of needing agreement about the past or even the present, to move toward a shared future.

With love, Jordan
