"Yes, And" ≈ "No, But" 👎

Saying "yes, and..." allows for different points of view to be honored and included. It's a great way for our increasingly differentiated society to welcome more diversity and make room for new ways of thinking and being. We accept what someone says ("yes") and add to it ("and"). And it's fun because as far as I know, its roots are in improv comedy.

I think "no, but..." does effectively the same thing, but highlights a boundary as a path of connection and integration (rather than acceptance as the path). Every yes to one thing is a no to something else (and vice versa), but they give off different vibes. Let's use both.
