Have you slept enough, and have you eaten? 🌮

Having children—especially infants—convinced me that hanger is a primary emotion. (For those who don't know: "Hanger" is a portmanteau of hungry and angry, and it’s what happens when you think the world sucks and everything is annoying and then you eat and you realize everything’s fine).

Infants also remind me how absolutely critical sleep is. Of course being a new dad it’s chronically challenging to get 'enough' sleep. Last night I went to bed early but first the diapers didn’t hold the pee, and then later my son had a surprise middle-of-the-night poop (sorry Jack if you ever read this, please understand no one is judging you since you’re not even two years old yet). But also, my wife figured out that our daughter’s fussiness was largely due to her tiredness. There’s a crazy thing about humans, or at least some modern humans with lights and stuff, that we have to learn how to go sleep, and being too tired can weirdly keep us awake!

All of this is to say that when you’re suffering, maybe its
secretly about fake separation from unity, but then also the decision to get enough sleep and get enough food is also secretly about it. Either way, you'll feel better if you get a nap and a taco.

With love, Jordan
