What’s an adult? 🌞

“Being an adult means giving more value to the systems you’re a part of than you take from them”, roughly said my friend Forrest Wilson on a recent phone call. I really like using my paraphrase of his definition. It’s clear, while still being flexible. I’m an adult in some systems; I’m an infant in others. It doesn’t rely on age or developmental level to define adulthood. It allows for each of us to use it with our personal definitions of “value”. I like how it doesn’t judge non-adults—if we think it’s judge-y, we’ve got some hidden potential to unleash. Why do we think receiving more than we give is bad? Why would we think being a kid is somehow “less” than being an adult?

With love, Jordan
